2009 Winners
University Hospital Birmingham - Planning and Performance
University Hospital Birmingham, Planning and Performance department were Accredited for both internal and external services in March 2008. The external provision is delivered by the Learning Hub which is a brand new, purpose built facility providing support for unemployed people to support them to develop employability skills and to access employment opportunities within the NHS.
Services were previously housed at three different sites across the city, each providing a slightly different service, with different processes. The organisation needed to bring together established services and did not want to lose the good work already identified in their matrix report, but also wanted to build on that to develop the new service. They used the Standard as a framework for what needed to be done to set up the new centre.
The plan for the development of the new service had the principles of the matrix Standard embedded in the approach. The Learning Hub undertook a complete re-branding exercise as part of their marketing strategy to ensure that clients and partners were informed of the new centre and services.
As people using the external services of the Learning Hub gain employment within the Trust, they are then referred to the internal service, Learning and Development Department, in order to support further training.
