In October 2007 RBLI gained matrix Accreditation. In addition to areas for development, their Assessment report highlighted a good organisation composed of passionate staff committed to meeting the needs of clients and it was these strengths that RBLI wanted to celebrate and build upon..
RBLI acknowledged that some of their processes were disjointed and inconsistently applied and that benchmarks showed areas where support for staff could be improved. They resolved to bring about a service that was structured, formalised and founded on good practice.
Their experience of the matrix Standard was used to form the structure of a plan of action interwoven with relevant parts of the Standard which they titled ‘momentum’. This coincided with the recruitment since January 2008 of 150 new members of staff, creating the challenge of new ways of communicating. The momentum initiative led to many developments including: Building upon their identified strengths, linking the development and work of staff to clear objectives, quantifiable benefits to staff, clients and partners, greater proficiency through targeted training and development of staff, improved internal communication across a larger organisation.
RBLI consider that the matrix Standard gave them recognition of the good work undertaken by staff which was being taken for granted and that this proved the foundation on which to further develop.
