2009 Winners

London Tigers

London Tigers has evolved from being an amateur football team in 1986, becoming a voluntary organisation in 1997 and registering as a charity in 2003.  It now has a focus on practical learning activity through sports coaching, training, competitive game play and volunteering; encouraging people to work, adopt a healthier lifestyle and retain family involvement.  The organisation did not initially regard itself as providing IAG but it is clear that this threads through all they do.

Use of the matrix Standard is seen as one of the ‘turning points’ of the organisation, in supporting a range of developments in particular giving the organisation the structure through improved management processes.  As an organisation that had grown, systems were ad hoc and not efficient.  By looking at all of the processes critically, the organisation has benefited in a number of areas including:

  • Improved management and processes
  • Creating more time/focus for delivery staff and volunteers
  • Benefits through staff training and development
  • Growth in services and outreach working
  • Significant impact on social cohesion and benefits to ‘hard to reach’ groups
