Connexions Hub Services in Tyne and Wear
Due to structural changes, the Connexions Service in Tyne and Wear was changed significantly during 2008 resulting in uncertainties for staff as a new central support service, ‘Connexions Hub Services’ was formed. Part of the service, New Pathways the IAG service for Adults had previously been Accredited to the matrix Standard, and using this experience the ‘Hub’ used the Standard to bring together all aspects of the newly formed organisation to undertake a root and branches review of all services, most of which had not previously been Accredited to the Standard. It was also decided to use the Standard both internally and externally.
Whilst looking at the internal service aspects, one of the issues that came out of the matrix Journey was staff felt there should be more consultation with them as many had gone through a very stressful process in the change over. As a result the wellbeing group was formed.
The result of the work on reviewing the new organisation against the matrix Standard and the specific work undertaken with staff has led to an organisation that has a common purpose, enabling staff to be involved and shaping the future – all in the context of an organisation that worked through some difficult times.
