Police Rehabilitation & Retraining Trust

Based in Belfast, Police Rehabilitation & Retraining Trust is a unique, specialist organisation dedicated exclusively to assisting retired and retiring police officers in making the transition back into civilian life and work.

The Careers Guidance and Personal Development Service of the organisation focuses on the training and education dimension, offering IAG to enable former police officers to recognise their employment potential and regain their self-confidence in the job market.

The service was Accredited to the matrix Standard in June 2004 for its external IAG work, and in 2007 it successfully retained the matrix Quality Mark.

Some of the cultural dynamics surrounding the police population in Belfast can prevent clients accessing the resources and support that are available.

The matrix Judges were impressed with the excellent partnership work undertaken by the service to help bridge this divide in a proactive yet sensitive way. Links have been developed with some Sector Skills Councils to demonstrate the transferable skills of clients.

They also recognised the great strides made by the team in challenging stereotypes and creating mutually fruitful links between clients and employers, leading to better job outcomes and greater confidence amongst the client group.
