2007 Winners
HM Prison Liverpool - Friendly Face Plus Project
Friendly Face Plus is a Resettlement project operating exclusively within Her Majesty’s Prison Liverpool. Its aim is to support eligible prisoners to secure and sustain work when leaving prison, by offering IAG on learning, work, and wider social issues.
The team achieved the matrix Standard for its external IAG work in July 2006, and the service has gone from strength to strength.
One of the key aspects that caught the eye of the matrix Judging panel was the commitment to using feedback to help improve and develop the service.
For example, feedback from local employers revealed a shortage of construction workers equipped with the ‘CSCS safety card’, which is now a legal Health and Safety requirement in the construction industry nationally.
As a direct result, the team developed a new range of courses which enable clients to achieve the CSCS card, and it became an Assessment Centre for the qualification. This means that employers find Friendly Face Plus clients more attractive to employ as they are ready for work.
It also empowers clients and gives them the confidence to enter the labour market with a head-start.
